A meeting held on May 14 at the Islamabad residence of PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has triggered political discussion after reports emerged that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi participated in talks related not only to security matters but also to the broader political situation in the country.According to informed sources, the gathering was part of ongoing backchannel engagement aimed at reducing tensions between PTI and the establishment.

Sources said the conversation included discussion about the worsening security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and terrorism-related concerns, but political issues were also central to the meeting.

One of the key matters reportedly discussed was improving jail access for PTI founder Imran Khan, including allowing his family members and senior party leadership to meet him more regularly.Medical access and humanitarian concerns linked to the jailed former prime minister also came under discussion.Insiders claimed that Barrister Gohar’s residence has previously been used as a trusted venue for sensitive contacts between PTI and authorities.They added that if the meeting had only focused on security matters, different participants and a different venue would likely have been chosen.

The report further stated that both sides exchanged concerns and communicated their respective “red lines,” particularly regarding reservations held by the establishment over PTI’s political conduct.

Sources rejected claims that any participant was pressured into attending the talks, saying the purpose was to improve understanding and lower political confrontation.

According to the sources, recent public comments by Aleema Khanum on social media may have negatively affected these reconciliation efforts and could impact possible arrangements for family meetings with Imran Khan in jail.
