West Bengal Governor R N Ravi, during an event in north Bengal, made remarks indirectly targeting the Trinamool Congress (TMC), cautioning that questioning democratic institutions after electoral losses could erode public confidence.

Ravi observed that it has become common for individuals or parties to claim the court or election processes are biased if outcomes do not favour them.

While he did not name anyone specifically, his comments appeared to address recent allegations from TMC chief Mamata Banerjee questioning the legitimacy of the West Bengal Assembly election results, in which the BJP won a majority and formed the state government for the first time.

The governor stressed that narratives casting doubt on institutions risk creating confusion among citizens and weakening faith in the country's democratic and constitutional framework.He further added that both internal and external forces were attempting to reduce public confidence.

His statements come amid continuing political debates over election transparency, with Banerjee claiming the results were part of a conspiracy rather than a people's mandate.The governor’s remarks highlight the delicate balance between political contestation and maintaining institutional trust in a democracy.
