Six agricultural workers die as speeding Thar collides with autorickshaw in Chikkaballapur
The Bengaluru Traffic Police conducted a week-long intensive enforcement drive against drunk driving and overspeeding across the city from May 25 to May 31, aimed at improving road safety and reducing accidents caused by reckless driving behaviour.
The special operation involved personnel from all 53 traffic police stations in Bengaluru, who carried out large-scale vehicle checks at multiple locations.During the campaign, a total of 41,033 vehicles were inspected for alcohol consumption and traffic violations.Out of these, 699 motorists were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol.In addition to drunk driving checks, the police also focused on speeding violations, registering 387 cases of overspeeding during the same period.This brought the total number of cases booked during the drive to 1,086.The enforcement effort also resulted in the collection of fines from violators.Authorities imposed penalties amounting to ₹2.33 lakh for drunk driving cases and ₹1.56 lakh for overspeeding offences.
According to traffic police officials, the objective of the drive was to address two of the most common causes of road accidents in Bengaluru—drunken driving and speeding—and to encourage stricter compliance with traffic regulations.
A senior traffic police official stated that similar enforcement drives will continue in the coming weeks as part of ongoing efforts to enhance commuter safety and ensure disciplined driving behaviour across the city.
The initiative highlights the administration’s continued focus on reducing road fatalities and promoting safer urban traffic conditions through regular monitoring and strict enforcement actions.
