Supreme Court takes suo motu cognisance of Twisha Sharma death case amid dowry harassment and forensic investigation
On Thursday afternoon, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested retired judge Giribala Singh in connection with the death of her daughter-in-law, Twisha Sharma.This development came after the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday quashed the anticipatory bail that had earlier been granted to her.Twisha Sharma was found dead on May 12, and an FIR was registered on May 15.On the same day, a Bhopal trial court had granted interim bail to Giribala Singh, while her son, Samarth Singh, remains in CBI custody.
The High Court, led by Justice Devanarayan Mishra, highlighted repeated allegations, non-cooperation in investigation, and the serious nature of the offence while annulling the earlier bail.The offences cited include sections under the BNS Act, 2023, and the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.
Expressing relief and gratitude, Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, thanked the judiciary and the Chief Justice of India for taking cognisance of the matter.
He described the High Court’s order as a strong message for society and voiced confidence in the ongoing CBI investigation to uncover the complete truth.
The case has attracted widespread attention due to the involvement of a retired judicial officer, underlining the seriousness of the allegations and the legal process that continues to unfold.
