The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) conducted a targeted intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the death of a wanted terrorist identified as Khalid alias Commander.

The operation, launched on Saturday, was based on confirmed intelligence from the CTD's technical team indicating Khalid's presence in the Korai area.

During the operation, Khalid was surrounded and ordered to surrender multiple times but opened indiscriminate fire on CTD personnel, leading to his death.

The slain terrorist was affiliated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s Zakir Kochi Karwan group and had been evading law enforcement by altering his identity and moving between locations.A 9mm pistol, a hand grenade, and a smartphone were recovered from his possession.The CTD emphasized ongoing efforts to identify and prosecute his facilitators, financiers, and logistical network.

The incident highlights the rising threat of terrorism in KP, where violence surged by 44% in 2025, with fatalities increasing from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025.This underscores the persistent security challenges in the region despite ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
