Kenya Kwanza leaders rally in Eldoret to promote government achievements and 2027 re-election bid
Former Chief Justice David Maraga has indicated that he may be politically aligning himself with the Linda Mwananchi movement as the group prepares for upcoming rallies in Kisii and Nyamira counties.
The movement, which has been expanding its political influence ahead of the 2027 General Election, is positioning itself as a key opposition bloc seeking to challenge President William Ruto’s administration.
According to reports, Maraga, who has already declared his intention to contest the presidency in 2027, has shown early signs of engagement with the faction through participation in its mobilisation activities in the Gusii region.
The Linda Mwananchi coalition has been steadily growing by attracting influential political figures from different parties, particularly those opposed to the current government.
Among its leading voices is Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who has argued that defeating the incumbent president will require a broad and united opposition front.
The movement also includes several lawmakers such as Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, all of whom are part of the group pushing for political change in 2027.
Maraga’s reported engagement comes shortly after Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata distanced himself from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), signalling shifting political alliances ahead of the next election cycle.Kang’ata has maintained that his focus remains on development and serving his current term, even as he explores future political options.
The Linda Mwananchi faction has been criticising the government over issues such as corruption, governance failures, and human rights concerns, while positioning itself as a reform-driven alternative.
However, the ruling side maintains confidence, with President Ruto expressing belief that the opposition lacks a coherent strategy to challenge his leadership in 2027.As political realignments continue, Maraga’s potential involvement is seen as a significant development in Kenya’s evolving opposition landscape.
