Gunmen on Wednesday night attempted to attack the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, but were successfully repelled by security operatives. The incident happened around 11 p.m.when the armed men tried to force their way through the institute’s outer security perimeter.
According to security sources and an official statement from the institute, the attackers engaged security personnel in a gun battle but were stopped before they could gain access to the facility.During the exchange of fire, one of the attackers was shot dead, while others managed to escape with suspected gunshot injuries.

This attack comes just a few days after another similar attempt was foiled around the same facility, raising concerns about repeated targeting of critical national institutions in Plateau State.
In response to earlier threats, the institute has increased its security measures, including additional armed personnel deployment, improved night surveillance, stricter access control, and joint patrols with other security agencies operating in the area.Officials say security reviews are still ongoing to identify and close any gaps that could be exploited by attackers.
The renewed assault highlights growing security challenges in the region, with authorities continuing efforts to strengthen protection around strategic government institutions and ensure safety of personnel and infrastructure.
