Karachi introduces e-challan system for lane discipline enforcement on Sharea Faisal starting June 1
Starting June 1, 2026, the Karachi Traffic Police have officially activated the e-challan system to monitor and penalise lane violations on Sharea Faisal under the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS).
According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Pir Mohammed Shah, the lane management plan requires commercial vehicles and motorcycles to stick to the two leftmost lanes, which are reserved specifically for their movement.Fast-moving private vehicles, including cars, jeeps, and double-cabin trucks, are strictly prohibited from using these lanes. The two right lanes are designated for speedy private traffic, with middle lanes in three-lane sections being shared depending on traffic flow.Shah emphasised that the e-challan system is fully automated and faceless, leaving no room for manual discretion.Motorists are urged to follow the rules to ensure smoother, safer traffic on Sharea Faisal.
Since its partial launch last year, the e-challan system has seen fluctuating numbers of issued fines, peaking in March 2026 before slightly declining in April.Officials believe that this system will improve road discipline and reduce chaos caused by lane violations in Karachi’s busiest thoroughfare.
