Lahore court extends interim bail of PML-N MPA and his wife in harassment case involving actress Momina Iqbal

A sessions court in Lahore has extended the interim pre-arrest bail of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of Provincial Assembly Saqib Chadhar and his wife until July 13 in a case related to alleged harassment of television actress Momina Iqbal. The hearing was presided over by Additional District and Sessions Judge Nusrat Ali Siddiqi.During the proceedings, the MPA appeared in court along with his lawyer, while his wife did not attend and cited health reasons for her absence. The court, after hearing the arguments, extended their bail and directed both accused to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation. It also instructed the prosecution to submit a progress report at the next hearing.

The case gained public attention after Momina Iqbal made a social media appeal in May, in which she alleged that she had been subjected to online harassment, cyberbullying, and death threats over a prolonged period. She claimed that repeated complaints to relevant authorities, including cybercrime agencies, were not initially acted upon.Following the viral nature of her post, senior political leadership reportedly took notice and directed authorities to investigate the matter.

Subsequently, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) summoned both parties and later registered a formal case against the accused under provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act along with sections of the Pakistan Penal Code related to criminal intimidation and abetment. The accused secured interim bail shortly after the case was registered, which has now been extended multiple times as legal proceedings continue. The matter remains under judicial review as investigations proceed and further evidence is expected to be presented in upcoming hearings.
