Lahore court extends interim bail of PML-N MPA and his wife in harassment case involving actress Momina Iqbal

A sessions court in Lahore has extended the interim pre-arrest bail of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of Provincial Assembly Saqib Chadhar and his wife until July 13 in a case related to alleged harassment of television actress Momina Iqbal. The hearing was conducted by Additional District and Sessions Judge Nusrat Ali Siddiqi, where the accused MPA appeared along with his legal counsel. However, his wife did not attend the hearing, citing health-related issues.

The court directed both accused individuals to cooperate with the ongoing investigation and instructed the prosecution to submit a progress report at the next hearing date.

The case emerged after actress Momina Iqbal publicly shared a social media post in May, alleging that she had been subjected to prolonged online harassment, cyberbullying, and even death threats. She claimed that her repeated complaints to relevant cybercrime and investigation authorities were not properly addressed initially.

Her allegations gained political attention, prompting senior leadership within PML-N, including Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, to take notice and order a formal inquiry through relevant agencies.

Following her complaint, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) summoned both parties and later registered a formal case against the MPA under multiple provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act as well as sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including cyber stalking, criminal intimidation, and offences related to modesty and misuse of digital platforms. The accused subsequently obtained interim pre-arrest bail, which has now been extended for further judicial proceedings.

The court has emphasized that the accused must fully participate in the investigation process, while law enforcement agencies continue to probe the allegations. The matter remains under judicial review, with the next hearing scheduled for July 13, when a progress report of the investigation will be presented.
