Azam FC U20 win NBC U20 Youth League title after 2-1 victory over Yanga U20
The 2025/26 NBC Premier League season in Tanzania was marked by a noticeable drop in goals among the top clubs, but it produced one of the most competitive title races in recent years.
Young Africans (Yanga) successfully defended their crown, securing a record-extending 32nd championship with 75 points, though this was seven fewer points and 12 fewer goals compared to their previous season.
Despite scoring less, Yanga strengthened their defensive record, conceding only nine goals, which helped them maintain consistency and secure crucial wins in tight matches.Simba SC finished second once again, closing the gap to just two points behind Yanga with 73 points. However, their attacking output dropped significantly, as they scored 54 goals compared to 69 the previous season.Even so, Simba showed improved defensive stability, conceding fewer goals than before, suggesting a more balanced but less aggressive squad.Azam FC remained consistent in third place with 63 points, slightly down from the previous season.Their main challenge was reduced attacking efficiency, scoring only 46 goals, although their defence improved significantly, conceding just 12 goals.Singida Black Stars stood out as the only top-four club to increase its goal tally, scoring 47 goals, even though their overall points dropped to 50.This showed gradual offensive improvement despite inconsistency in results.
Overall, the top four clubs collectively scored 35 fewer goals than the previous season, highlighting a shift towards stronger defensive organisation across the league.
The season was defined more by tactical discipline and narrow margins rather than high-scoring dominance, making the title race more intense and competitive until the end.
