Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has revealed that William Ruto's 2022 presidential victory hinged on selecting Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate over Kithure Kindiki.

Despite internal resistance within Ruto's camp, Sudi defended Gachagua's strategic value, particularly his ability to mobilize votes in Mt Kenya.Sudi admitted the team anticipated conflicts and opted to manage tensions from within government rather than externally.He noted that Kindiki, though a personal acquaintance, lacked the same mobilization capacity.Ruto's camp reportedly voted for Kindiki initially but ultimately chose Gachagua, securing 3.8 million votes from Mt Kenya.Gachagua was later impeached in 2024, with Kindiki replacing him as Deputy President.Sudi's comments highlight the complex political calculations behind Kenya's 2022 election strategy.
