The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast predicting a fresh spell of monsoon rains across the country from July 29 to August 5, following recent flooding incidents.

The monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are expected to affect upper and central regions starting July 29, while a westerly wave will intensify from August 1.

Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms is anticipated in multiple provinces, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Balochistan, and Sindh.

The PMD has warned of urban flooding in low-lying areas of major cities like Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, and Karachi, as well as landslides in KP and GB.Over 109 people have died and 360 injured due to monsoon-related incidents since June 25, with the highest casualties in KP.The NDMA highlighted a monsoon profile focused on northern regions, emphasizing preparedness measures.The government is investing $700 million annually in climate change initiatives under a World Bank partnership framework.Flood risks remain high, with flash floods possible in streams and torrents across affected areas.
