Pakistan Announces Geneva Signing Ceremony for US-Iran Peace Agreement Following Ceasefire Framework
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir have left for Switzerland to join the technical-level talks between the United States and Iran in Bürgenstock.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, this visit is part of the follow-up to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier between Tehran and Washington.Pakistan is playing an important role as mediator along with Qatar to keep the peace process alive in the Middle East.The Foreign Office confirmed that representatives from US, Iran, Pakistan and Qatar will attend these discussions on June 21.
This comes after the preliminary peace deal was signed electronically on June 15 by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, with PM Shehbaz as mediator.The agreement focuses on ending the conflict, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting blockades.PM Shehbaz is accompanied by a high-level delegation.Iranian officials have also reached Switzerland while some concerns were raised about the implementation of the deal.Vice President JD Vance from US side is also expected to join soon.Pakistan continues to facilitate these important talks for regional stability and peace.This diplomatic effort shows Pakistan's active role in international matters and its commitment to resolve conflicts through dialogue.
