Nine arrested after disorder at north London football parade following Champions League final defeat
A police officer in Downpatrick, County Down, was seriously injured after being struck by a stolen police car.The incident occurred early on Sunday morning at around 04:45 BST, when a vehicle failed to stop for police on Fountain Street.The officers later found the vehicle, prompting a foot chase during which the officer discharged his firearm.As he returned to his police car, a man had taken the vehicle and drove directly towards him, striking the officer.The officer was immediately assisted by colleagues and ambulance personnel and was taken to hospital.His injuries are reported as serious but not life-threatening.A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that the stolen vehicle, firearm, and ammunition have been seized for forensic examination.The Police Ombudsman has been notified in line with standard procedures.Senior officers and local politicians condemned the attack, highlighting the dangers faced by law enforcement.The PSNI has appealed for anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to assist in the investigation.This incident has raised concerns about police safety and the need to review procedures following such a dangerous event.
