CBSE’s shift to on-screen marking sparks debate over implementation pace and preparedness
The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, recently celebrated a landmark achievement as the state secured the No.1 position in NITI Aayog’s School Education Quality Report 2026.
To mark this accomplishment, simultaneous Mega Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) were organised in over 19,000 government schools across Punjab under the programme titled ‘Sikhiya Da Maha Jashan’.
Education Minister S Harjot Singh Bains highlighted that this milestone reflects the combined efforts of parents, students, and teachers who have transformed government schools into preferred institutions for quality education.
More than 20 lakh parents participated in these PTMs and workshops, which focused on summer learning continuity, holiday homework management, and establishing positive routines to support children’s education during the vacation period.
Teachers, non-teaching staff, and outstanding students including board toppers, JEE qualifiers, and achievers of the English Edge Programme were felicitated for their dedication and excellence.
The government ensured smooth execution of the programme by training all teachers and school heads via live YouTube sessions, supported by trained facilitators and active school management committees.
The initiative is seen as a significant step in the ongoing 'Punjab Sikhya Kranti', aiming to sustain quality education in the state’s government schools.
