The United Nations has called on countries involved in the Middle East conflict to help evacuate and repatriate around 6,000 sailors stuck in the Strait of Hormuz.

The UN human rights chief, Volker Turk, highlighted that these seafarers are facing a severe humanitarian crisis due to ongoing attacks on civilian vessels.

The International Maritime Organization confirmed that hundreds of ships with thousands of crew members are unable to leave the area during the ceasefire.

The UN urged all parties to ensure safe passage for the sailors, deliver essential supplies, and stop attacks on civilian ships protected under international law.
