US, Iran, Pakistan and Qatar Delegations Convene in Switzerland for Technical Talks on Implementing Islamabad MoU

Delegations from Iran, the United States, Pakistan and Qatar gathered in Burgenstock, Switzerland, for technical-level discussions aimed at implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was signed on June 17 to halt hostilities between Washington and Tehran.

The talks focus on working out practical details of the agreement, which includes a framework to end the conflict, ease the US blockade on Iran, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and continue negotiations on broader regional and nuclear issues.

Pakistan’s delegation, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and accompanied by Chief of Defence Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and other senior officials, arrived in Switzerland to participate in the mediation process.According to Pakistani officials, bilateral and quadrilateral meetings were planned, with Pakistan and Qatar continuing their roles as facilitators.

The US delegation was headed by Vice President JD Vance, while Iran’s team was led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and included Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials.Vance stated that discussions would address Iran’s nuclear programme and the ceasefire situation in Lebanon.

Iranian officials stressed that all parties must fulfil their commitments under the agreement and warned that failure to do so could jeopardise the entire process.Pakistan’s Foreign Office reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to supporting dialogue and durable peace in the region.The talks represent the first formal engagement between the US and Iran since the signing of the Islamabad MoU.

Internationally, the agreement has been welcomed as a significant diplomatic step towards ending more than 100 days of conflict and creating conditions for future negotiations on security, economic recovery and regional stability.
