Amarnath and Vaishno Devi Yatras Suspended Due to Weather Concerns
The Amarnath and Mata Vaishno Devi yatras in Jammu and Kashmir have been temporarily suspended from July 19, 2026, due to inclement weather forecasts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Kashmir Divisional Commissioner, Anshul Garg, stated that the decision was made as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims. Both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes will remain closed until further notice, with no onward movement permitted from the Baltal and Nunwan/Chandanwari base camps. Pilgrims are advised to avoid undertaking the pilgrimage until the weather conditions improve and the authorities confirm the resumption of the yatras. Over 3.76 lakh pilgrims have already visited the Amarnath cave shrine during the ongoing yatra. The Vaishno Devi Yatra has also been suspended, with officials emphasizing the importance of public safety amid predicted moderate to widespread rainfall from July 19 to 23. Devotees are urged to stay updated through official channels for the latest information on the resumption of the yatras.
